The Jobs of Yesteryear series combines history and surrealism to tell the stories of obsolete jobs. A contemporary glimpse into the past, these mixed media paintings serve as a reminder of a time and stories long forgotten.

This particular Job of Yesteryear mixed media painting features a shepherd. Shepherd have been tending their flocks for over 5,000 years, which makes a shepherd one of the oldest occupations in existence. The main task of the shepherd is to keep their flock of sheep safe from predators and well nurtured. They are also responsible for guiding the flock to a market area when it’s time for shearing. The shepherd also has its symbolic place in many religions and cultures. Most notably, Jesus called himself The Good Shepherd. Many modern developments have made this ancient occupation easier, with a prime example being the implementation of fences.

The Shepherd III was created with acrylic paint, and the long-limbed character was cut from paper and collaged with kraft paper. The Jobs of Yesteryear are thought-provoking conversation pieces that will bring an air of history and whimsy to any room.
