The Jobs of Yesteryear series combines history and surrealism to tell the stories of obsolete jobs. A contemporary glimpse into the past, these mixed media paintings serve as a reminder of a time and stories long forgotten.
This particular Job of Yesteryear mixed media painting features seafarers. The ocean has beckoned to humans since the dawn of humanity and we have used it to get from here to there ever since. Traveling by boat had a long and wonderful evolution from ancient times up until the early 20th century, when humans finally figured out how to get up out of the water and off the ground and take flight without dire consequences in airplanes. The call of an oceanliner continues to beckon to many and the heave and ho of the ocean can be experienced by modern seafarers aboard cruise ships and other massive marine vessels.
The Seafarers was created with acrylic paint. The long-limbed character was cut from paper and collaged with kraft paper. The Jobs of Yesteryear are thought-provoking conversation pieces that will bring an air of history and whimsy to any room.
