The Jobs of Yesteryear series combines history and surrealism to tell the stories of obsolete jobs. A contemporary glimpse into the past, these mixed media paintings serve as a reminder of a time and stories long forgotten.

This particular Job of Yesteryear mixed media painting features a fisherman. The life of a shore fisherman was a hardy existence: rowing several miles in search of bait and fish to sell, waiting for the tide to change or a favorable wind while sleeping in their open boats, and finding buyers to pay a fair price for their catch were all routine obstacles that these fishermen had to overcome. They were men born into a life on the water and when times were good, they ate well. Larger fishing vessels and more advanced motors and equipment have greatly altered the life of the fisherman over the centuries.

The Fisherman II was created with acrylic paint. The long-limbed character was cut from paper and collaged with kraft paper. The Jobs of Yesteryear are thought-provoking conversation pieces that will bring an air of history and whimsy to any room.
