The Jobs of Yesteryear series combines history and surrealism to tell the stories of obsolete jobs. A contemporary glimpse into the past, these mixed-media paintings serve as a reminder of a time and stories long forgotten.

This particular Job of Yesteryear mixed media painting features firemen. Firefighting has a long history, and the brave men and women that make up their ranks and who threw themselves into the most dangerous of situations are absolutely worth celebrating. There is a quote about firefighters of the past that reads, “Back when men were men and ladders were made of wood.” This piece honors these brave men and women with the metal ladder in the bottom of the piece serving as a nod to the future generations.

The Firemen II was created with acrylic paint, and the long-limbed character was cut from paper and collaged with kraft paper. The Jobs of Yesteryear are thought-provoking conversation pieces that will bring an air of history and whimsy to any room.
