his particular Job of Yesteryear mixed media painting features a basket man. Being too drunk to drive home from the bar wasn’t a problem in Turkey starting in the 1960s. Bars would hire basket men to carry patrons home who were too drunk to get there on their own. This would ensure their patrons’ safety while also allowing them to clear out the bar at closing time. Nowadays, Uber and Lyft offer a modern equivalent to the basket man.

The Basket Man II was created with acrylic paint, and the long-limbed character was cut from paper and collaged with kraft paper. The Jobs of Yesteryear are thought-provoking conversation pieces that will bring an air of history and whimsy to any room.
