This print is ready to hang and has the look of the original painting for a fraction of the cost. The Jobs of Yesteryear are thought-provoking conversation pieces that will bring an air of history and whimsy to any room.

Beneath a big prairie sky, the shocker would gather the harvested stalks grain into bundles and stack them so that they could dry in the hot autumn sun. Harvesting has been an ever-evolving process throughout history and the shocker gives a glimpse into one aspect of that process. Shocking’s modern equivalent is the baler, which is pulled by a tractor and bundles harvested grain into massive bales.

The original painting was created on stained birch wood panel using only three colors of acrylic paint, which gives the work a monochromatic theme of warm greys and creams and have the feel of a black and white photograph steeped in history. The long limbed characters are crafted using hundreds of hand-torn bits of kraft paper collaged on top of watercolor paper and painted with an acrylic wash.
