The Jobs of Yesteryear series combines history and surrealism to tell the stories of obsolete jobs. A contemporary glimpse into the past, these mixed media paintings serve as a reminder of a time and stories long forgotten.

This particular Job of Yesteryear mixed media painting features a music man. A one-man band is a musician that plays multiple instruments simultaneously using their mouths, limbs, feet, and any other moving body part they can attach sound-making to. The earliest known examples go back to the 13th century when musicians played a pipe (simple flute) and tabor, a type of drum. Many modern-day buskers continue in this tradition to the delight of tourists with the addition of digital accompaniment serving as an impactful technological advancement.

The One Man Band III was created with acrylic paint, and the long-limbed character was cut from paper and collaged with kraft paper. The Jobs of Yesteryear are thought-provoking conversation pieces that will bring an air of history and whimsy to any room.
